Newstead Action Group (NAGS) is a group dedicated to improving the community which meets at St Mary’s Church Newstead every Monday, 6:30pm.
We organise and hold fayres, events and a coffee morning 10am – 12pm on the last Saturday of each month (look for the big sign outside church!) as a way of bringing the community together, whilst raising money for the church.
Over the years the church has looked so derelict which gave the impression that it was no longer in use. It was an eye-sore for the village, but through the community’s hard work we have begun to renovate the building, starting with the garden.
Currently we are in the process of appointing a new parish architect which the aim of modernising the church building whilst maintaining the village heritage. These include:
- Toilets in the church
- Kitchen area
- Storage area
- More efficient heating
- Windows (that actually close!)
- Sound system
- Improved front entrance
…to name but a few!
As with any group we are always keen to welcome new members or anyone who is willing to get stuck in! We have people who bake for coffee mornings and fayres or who lend a hand to weed or pick litter now and again. Every little helps!
